Tanik Saikh

Assistant Professor

Tanik Saikh is an Assistant Professor in Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) university, Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India. Prior to joining KIIT, he was a postdoctoral researcher at L3S Research Center, Leibniz University, Hannover, Germany. He did his Ph.D. in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, at IIT Patna. He was fortunate to be advised by Dr. Asif Ekbal and Prof. Pushpak Bhattacharyya. Generally, his research interest lies in the domain of Natural Language Processing (NLP), Machine Learning (ML) and Deep Learning (DL), particularly in applying Natural Language Inference (NLI)/ Textual Entailment (TE) in Fake News Detection, Question Answering, and Novelty Detection. Currently, he is working on multi-modal (combining text with image) fake news detection in the news domain, multi-modal question answering, i.e., reasoning over multiple modalities (text, images, table) to extract the best possible answer to a complex question. Prior to joining IIT Patna, he was involved as Research Engineer at Jadavpur University. He has more than ten years of working experience in the different areas of NLP, Text Analytics, and Machine Learning. He worked in several national level consortia based projects funded by DeitY, Govt. of India, in Computer Science and Engineering Department, Jadavpur University, and also continued research work in Textual Entailment, Question Answering, Machine Learning, Eye Tracking, etc. During his stay at Jadavpur University he did an one year certification course on Introduction to Linguistics. He did his masters (M.Tech) and bachelor (B.Tech) from Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology Shibpur, and Government College of Engineering and Leather Technology, West Bengal University of Technology, West Bengal, India. He did hid schooling from his native place located at Birbhum district in West Bengal. He also worked as a lecturer in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering department, Aliah University, Kolkata, India for more than a year. Google Scholar Citation which is the benchmark for Computer Science and Engineering shows 206 career citations to my papers. My h-index: 8 and i-10 index: 6.
